People in the communities closest to our operations are very important to BHP. The BHP Charter, which provides the foundation for the way we operate is clear that we will be successful when the communities where we operate value our presence and are themselves successful and share outcomes that are mutually positive.
Our priority social investment is focused on the communities in which we operate- Guayaguayare, Mayaro, Toco and Tobago. Based on community consultation, we have selected education and the environment as our main areas of strategic community focus and investment.
Our partnership with Turtle Village Trust and the community-based environmental groups, have resulted in sustainable programmes being developed and introduced, which will grow capabilities and empower our host communities. We look forward to further sustainable outcomes for all involved.
